RAINBOW WALL
It’s crazy how you think you can see the whole thing from the parking lot but really it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Mountains so big, you feel like you’re at the base when you’re actually a mile away. And after you walk that mile, a whole new layer opens up.
We parked right as the navy sky began its fade into the sun. We headed toward the mountain line with the sun at our backs and the peaks lit up in a fiery pink and orange. The day was coming to life and we were already ahead of it.
I’d seen photos of Rainbow wall at sunrise and had dreamed of being there for it ever since.
We scrambled our way up and over giant boulders and when we emerged at the base of the wall, some hundreds of feet above where we started that morning, the enormity of the wall swallowed us up. Towering hundreds of feet overhead still, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it.
We laid on the slab in the morning rays for a bit before heading back down to the lot.
All of this before 10 am.
